Model Bunker - A simple story

Most hobbyists have a story. Mine is not really different to anyone else’s. It started the first time I walked into a Games Workshop store in Essex.

It was a hive of activity and there were two things I immediately noticed a beautifully lit display of fantastic Warhammer miniatures and a massive gaming table at the centre of the shop everyone was really excited about.

That was when I was bitten. I just had to have those miniatures – they were fantastic! But would I go Fantasy or 40K?

First Purchase

My first purchase was what at that time was Games Workshop’s first ever Warhammer box set. I loved the character of the Orc and Goblin army. The Elves were cool too, but it was the Greenskins that captured my imagination. I just couldn’t get over those Goblin Fanatics spiralling around madly with no real sense of direction.

Hoping they would somehow bring this metal ball on a chain, larger than their own heads, into contact with those girly elves.

Fourteen Years Later

Some fourteen years on since that day and I’m still loving it. My first paint jobs were quite atrocious. At that time everyone painted with bright gaudy colours. I still remember those Bad Moon Yellow spear shafts of my Night Goblins.

I’d like to think I’m a bit better now. I know I’m no pro, or ‘Eavy Metal painter, but I do the best I can. On each new model I try to push myself in some way. It doesn’t always turn out well, but I love the process. The same is true about gaming as well. I’m not really competitive. I just love looking at painted armies of miniatures arrayed across a beautifully crafted gaming table and enjoy the friendly banter.

No Corporate Giant

So this is where Model Bunker comes in. I’m no corporate giant. I’m simply a guy who loves to collect, paint and game with tiny figures. A guy who has never and will never grow up. Model Bunker is simply fuel for my addiction. One that I hope you will share with me too.
